One Dog, One Lure and 100 yards of fun!
Special Photo-Feature:
Spectators Welcome! [galleries below]
Central Florida K9 hosted a fun and training Fast Cat with their permanent 100 yard track and invited dogs from all over to come play.
For informal event the turn out was surprising and best of all was to see many owners and dogs who had never seen or played this game that has exploded in popularity since the AKC added it less than ten years ago.
CFK9
The Central Florida K9 venue is one of the only 5 star locations recognized by Bad Azz Dogz. They have a fully ADA compliant facility, permanent staff and provide special accommodations and support for 1st Responder and Military disabled veterans. Capable of hosting many dog activities and limited RV support too.
Links and contact information at end of article below.
*Onsite training includes: obedience, therapy dog, protection, scent work (Including NASDA) and Dock diving.
What is Fast CAT? (a simple introduction)
Fast Cat names is misleading to the casual observer and is an acronym for Fast Coursing Ability Test. A "spin off: of the American Kennel Club "Coursing Ability Test wish is open to most all breed of dogs and is itself a fun spin off of the Sighthound only Lure Coursing trails.
Unlike those, Fast CAT is strictly a straight run on a 100 yard track in pursuit of the plastic "lure" on a pully. The time is calculated for the speed the dog attained for points and it is separated into size divisions. The relative lack of special training or equipment makes it one of the most accessible dog games available through the AKC.
* Note: We would not recommend the current CFK9 permanent Fast CAT course for actual trials as we believe the runoff (though AKC compliant) is insufficient for Sighthounds and equivalent breeds to slow down in time. Contact CFK9 for more information.
We will have a full feature on this amazing venue hidden in the spine of Florida very soon. Till then we hope you enjoy these highlights from the day.
